Rental Safety Rules
Before You Leave
- Attend the required equipment and safety orientation.
- Make sure your PFD fits properly.
- Check that everyone understands the basic operation of the watercraft.
- Secure personal belongings.
- Ask questions before departing if anything is unclear.
While on the Water
- Operate at a safe and responsible speed.
- Maintain a safe distance from swimmers, docks, boats, paddlecraft, shorelines, and other obstacles.
- Keep a proper lookout at all times.
- Slow down around congested areas and other water users.
- Do not deliberately collide with or bump another GoBoat.
- Do not tow people, tubes, watercraft, or other objects.
- Do not overload the watercraft or exceed its rated capacity.
- Remain within the permitted operating area on Island Lake.
- Do not operate while impaired by alcohol, cannabis, drugs, or impairing medication.
- Follow all instructions provided by ILEP.
Children and Minors
Children must comply with applicable PFD requirements.
Minors must meet ILEP’s age requirements and must have the required adult supervision.
A parent or legal guardian must sign the required consent form before a minor participates.
Weather
Return to shore if:
- Strong winds develop.
- Thunder or lightning is observed.
- Visibility becomes poor.
- Water conditions become unsafe.
- ILEP instructs you to return.
Do not attempt to “wait out” dangerous conditions on the water.
If Something Goes Wrong
If the GoBoat or other equipment becomes disabled:
- Remain calm.
- Put on/keep on your PFD.
- Stay with the watercraft unless remaining with it creates a greater danger.
- Contact Island Lake Electric & Paddle for assistance.
- Call 911 for a life-threatening emergency.
Do not attempt significant repairs while on the water.
Report all accidents, collisions, injuries, equipment damage, or malfunctions to Island Lake Electric & Paddle as soon as possible.
